I would never teach my horse to rear (alt. phrasing I would never teach my horse that rearing is an acceptable and rewarded behaviour.)but if I did i would stop the minute he started to strike out and walk into me on his hind legs. Look, undoubtledly rider size will be brought into this one ... personally I think that regardless of our feelings over that issue ... this is bad riding, dangerous and irresponsible. That is one PATIENT horse right there. Any of mine would have sent her swimming. At the beginning it looks like she's trying to drown him!!!

I think this is more lesson fail than actual bad riding.  If this is a lesson why are they just running pony at the fence while raising it?  The girl doesn't seem like a bad rider, just a beginner and a bit over horsed.  She's fine over the X's but anything after that her distances are nonexistent and she's getting left behind.  Pony seems a bit ( Read more... )

This was the girls first attempt at the canter and her first fall. It's more the instructors fault but it's still bad. She probably rushed the student because if the girl can't sit without clutching to the pommel then she needs more time.
